Mohanlal reclaims box office throne in Kerala

But in India, after the 1st weekend, the film did not see big numbers. Everyone expected it would be the 1st 100 Cr grosser for Kerala, and even they thought it would open the 150 Cr club and many more milestones, but L2 Empuraan did not match the expectations. As of now, the film has not become the number one grosser yet. It has collected around 85 Cr gross, and reaching the No. 1 position [90 Cr] itself looks like an impossible task. The mixed WOM impacted it from the 2nd week, and that is why Empuraan’s disappointing finish at the Indian box office shocked everyone.

Mollywood Actor Mohanlal scored a mega blockbuster recently with L2: Empuraan. The film also became an Industry hit there grossing more than 250 crores worldwide. Within a short gap of time, his other release, Thudarum, too rocked the box office. The film is still running strong, grossing more than 190 crores worldwide in 15 days. It will also join the 200 crores by tomorrow.

L2: Empuraan, though becoming an Industry Hit worldwide, didn’t establish a record in Kerala. In Kerala, Mohanlal’s previous film, Puli Murugan, held the record of Kerala’s biggest grosser for many years. Baahubali 2 couldn’t break this record, showcasing the stardom of Mohanlal. However, 2018 starring Tovino Thomas crossed Puli Murugan, emerging as highest grosser in Kerala with 90 crores.

L2: Empuraan settled only around with 86 crores gross and failed to beat but Thudarum, as said, looks to beat 2018’s record today and is all set to become Kerala’s highest grosser. Thudarum will also touch the 100 crore mark in Kerala alone creating a record.
