Legendary actor Kamal Haasan and director Mani Ratnam reunited after almost 37 years for an action film, ‘Thug Life.’ The film emerged as a big failure at the box office. Now, Mani Ratnam apologizes to fans for Thug Life.
Mani Ratnam opens up about Thug Life’s failure:
“For those who were expecting another Nayakan from the two of us, all I can say is, we are sorry. I think more than over-expectation, it was a case of different expectations. The audience expected something far removed from what we delivered.”
Because of such an iconic actor-director combination, fans expected nothing less than a film in the lines of ‘Nayakan.’ However, the film severely disappointed the fans and even critics, who said it is not at all a film that one would expect from the Kamal-Mani combo.
Many felt that even the predictable storyline is okay, but the film lacked proper depth in the characters or situations. AR Rahman’s music was also not used perfectly, as two songs were missing from the film.
Mani Ratnam apologizes to fans for Thug Life. The director is currently busy with the screenplay for his next film, presumably a romantic drama. Let us hope that the veteran director makes a comeback with a solid film.
