Story: Satya (Siva Karthikeyan) is a cartoonist who does not want to get into any problems and wants to live a normal life with his mother and sister. However, his life has an unexpected turn for him when he starts to hear the voice of his cartoon action figure Mahaveerudu. What does Mahaveerudu tell Satya? What does the Home Minister have to do with Satya and his family? Answers to these questions form the rest of the story.
Analysis: The movie starts with a redevelopment movement by the government, which results in a community of slums, including the hero Satya (Siva Karthikeyan), being forced to move to an apartment. After moving into the flats, they realize that the apartment was badly constructed. The director very naturally established the difficulties faced by the hero’s family and other public as he shows the doorknobs coming off, the paint coming out of the walls and cracks appearing at the slightest pressure.
In this process, he cleverly incorporates the character of Yogi Babu who comes as a serviceman to the apartment. His character is used very well in the narrative as the director links him with the main lead’s character and his Cartoon superhero. All the scenes involving Hero and Mahaveerudu came well. The first interaction with the villain and afterward proceedings were also captivating with a perfect interval sequence.
However, things dip a bit in the second half for a while, but again the tempo is brought back as the Hero understands the true value and meaning of Mahaveerudu. The emotional angle was perfect and the elevation at the pre climax was also nice. After that, the Climax was also well planned, but it has an unnecessary extension at the end with a saving episode.
Performances: Siva Karthikeyan was good, and he gave a sincere performance and showed the transformation in his role very well. Mysskin suited to the negative role and Sunil was good as his pawn. Aditi Shankar does not have much scope, but she made her presence felt. Yogi Babu was hilarious and Sarita was apt.
Plus Points:
- Main plot with an underlying message
- Siva Karthikeyan’s performance
- Entertainment
Minus Points:
- Dull moments in the second half
- Villain role could have been designed better
Verdict:
Overall, Mahaveerudu feels like a template commercial entertainer on the facet, but director Madonne Ashwin handles it effectively. He very well mixed the entertainment with the main message, without going overboard, and makes the film a nice watch.
