After the huge success of Hanu-Man, director Prasanth Varma has announced a new female superhero film titled Mahakali, which is part of his expanding Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe (PVCU). The film will be directed by Puja Aparna Kolluru.
Varma recently revealed the Mahakali first look poster and introduced Bhoomi Shetty as the lead actress. She looks fierce and powerful as Maha. Bhoomi is known for her role as Satya Dev’s wife in Kingdom and also starred in Sharatulu Vartistayi. She hails from the Kannada film industry.
Akshaye Khanna, who impressed audiences with his role as Aurangzeb in Chhaava, will play the character of Shukracharya in Mahakali.
Set against the backdrop of West Bengal, the film is written by Prasanth Varma and produced by RK Dug and Riwaz Ramesh Duggal under the RKD Studios banner. The music is composed by Smaran Sai.
More than 50% of the film’s shoot is already complete, and it is currently being filmed on a large set specially built in Hyderabad. Mahakali is expected to release in the second half of 2026.
