Lyricist Anantha Sriram fires on Kalki. Kalki 2898 AD, the big budget film made by Nag Ashwin starring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan went on to became a huge blockbuster at the box office and collected over 1000 crores at the box office. However, the film faced criticism by many people as they thought it distorted the facts of the Epic Mahabharata.
The renowned lryricst of Telugu Cinema, Anantha Sriram also joins the list who have not liked the Mahbharata portions of Kalki. During his speech at the ‘Hindu Sankharavam’ meeting organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad at Kesarapalli near Gannavaram in NTR district, he spoke about Kalki and other old films in which the Hindu sentiments were not respected by the filmmakers.
He took an example of glorifying Karna character in Kalki movie, and he also objected the
misuse of hinduism in songs, and took example of old superhit Hindi Song, where ‘Hare Ram Hare Ram’ phrase was used in an item song like Dum Maaro Dum. The lyricst also remembered an indecent behaviour a music director, who refused to approve lyrics that included a Hindu word – ‘Brahmaṇḍa Nayakudu’. But Sriram then decided not to work with that music director and he continued to do so in the last 15 years.
Regarding Kalki, the same was said by many people, as everyone is emotinoall attached to the Mahabharata. It started from Senior NTR’s Daana Veera Soora Karna, where the legendary actor and director showcasied Karna as the best character/hero from Mahabharata by adding many unnecessary elements and since then, man filmmakers continued to show Karna as a hero, including Kalki. Hindu pandits are already expressed the movie teams are not showing what exactly happend in Mahabharata and writing their own creative scenes. As Lyricist Anantha Sriram fires on Kalki, this discussion has been started once again.
Anantha Sriram also said that before the government bans films that are made to insult Hindu Dharma, the Hindu audeinces themselves should boycott them altogether. If they do so, the filmmakers would stop doing such movies because of the fear of public rejection.
