LUXE IMAX Chennai Reopens for Ramayana, But Same Old 2K Xenon Projection Disappoints

Ramayana IMAX Chennai: LUXE IMAX in Chennai disappoints fans.

Chennai’s LUXE IMAX is set to reopen with Ramayana on November 5. Moviegoers should be thrilled, but there’s a catch. The screen is coming back with no upgrade at all. The projection and sound remain exactly the same as before.

What’s New? Nothing

LUXE IMAX will continue with:

Projection: 2K Dual Xenon
Sound: 5-Channel

There’s no change in either. For a screen reopening right before one of the biggest visual films of the year, that’s a letdown for many fans.

Why This Matters

IMAX has moved forward a lot in recent years. The newer IMAX with Laser systems offer 4K projection, much brighter images, deeper contrast and 12-channel sound. Most premium IMAX screens in India are now moving to laser.

A 2K Dual Xenon setup is the older IMAX digital system. It still gives a bigger and better experience than a regular screen. But film lovers who track formats closely know it’s not the best IMAX can offer today.

Ramayana Deserves the Best

Ramayana is one of the most ambitious Indian films ever made, with huge VFX work and a scale built for the biggest screens. In the USA, IMAX alone contributes about 71% of its premiere pre-sales so far. That shows how much audiences want to watch it in premium formats.

So Chennai fans were hoping the reopening would come with a laser upgrade to match the film’s scale.

Still Good News for Chennai

Even without an upgrade, the reopening is good news. Chennai gets its IMAX screen back in time for Ramayana, and IMAX shows for big films usually sell out first. Expect a rush for tickets once bookings open.

Hyderabad, on the other hand, is still waiting for its IMAX with Laser screen at the upcoming AMB multiplex at RTC X Roads.

Ramayana Release

Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana releases in theatres on November 5 in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and other languages.
