Tamil director Lokesh Kanagaraj and superstar Rajinikanth joined hands for the first time Coolie. The director was supposed to work with Rajini again, and though things changed post Coolie’s release, Lokesh looks desperate to work with him again.
Coolie was released with massive hype and emerged as the biggest opener for Kollywood, and it is also 2025’s biggest opener for Indian Cinema.
But the content failed to impress audiences, which resulted in the film becoming an average grosser. Lokesh Kanagaraj received very harsh criticism, and audiences called it the weakest film in his Filmography.
Lokesh also certainly does not seem to be satisfied with Coolie’s result. As per the schedule, he needs to start Kaithi 2 next, then Aamir Khan’s film, and Vikram 2.
There was no other film planned with Rajinikanth in between, but Lokesh Kanagaraj now wants to work with the superstar at any cost and give a big hit because of Coolie’s disappointing result.
It was also said that the biggest multistarrer of Tamil Cinema, Rajinikanth – Kamal Haasan’s film, will be helmed by the Kaithi 2 director, but he is said to have another two scripts in his hand.
Rajinikanth did not sign any film officially after Jailer 2, and the film’s shoot is expected to be completed by this year’s end or early 2026. Lokesh Kanagaraj wants to work with Rajinikanth after this immediately, and we need to see how things unfold.
