L2:Empuraan shatters records: 100 crore overseas in 4 days – A first for Mollywood

Controversy arises from the film's portrayal of the 2002 Gujarat riots, seemingly targeting Hindus and India's ruling party. BJP-RSS supporters reacted strongly, criticizing the film on social media. A call to boycott Empuraan has spread among followers, who accuse it of being politically biased. Due to this raging issue, Empuraan's team is forced to delete scenes due to controversy. The makers themselves have now come forward to re-edit the film and re-censor it. As per Malayalam news channels, 17 scenes will be either edited or muted, and a revised version will come out next week.

L2: Empuraan has created a major sensation at the box office. The film released amidst great hype and buzz lived up to its expectations though receiving mixed reviews and word of mouth. Particularly, the overseas market has stunned everyone including the team for its performance. L2: Empuraan took a major opening there with around $5 Million.

The film’s business was done for 30 crores. To achieve the breakeven mark, it has to collect $9 Million there. This was perceived as risky by many since Mollywood’s biggest film, 2018 collected only around $8 Million there. But, L2: Empuraan shocked all by taking the overseas market by storm. Usually, the mixed word of mouth impacts a film in a big way but L2: Empuraan has no effect on it. The film continues to rake in strong numbers at the box office.

For the opening weekend of 4 days, the film has collected $12 Million meaning that the film has joined 100 crore club. L2: Empuraan has also become the first ever 100 crore overseas grosser for Mollywood and also the biggest overseas grosser Indian film this year. This is indeed a remarkable feat by the film. The film is now eyeing the 150 crore club in the overseas region.
