While he is currently busy shooting for his film with Gopichand Malineni—slated for a Dasara release this year—the senior star is simultaneously planning his next move with a clear focus on Pongal 2027.
A Calculated Shift in Plans
Over the past few months, Balakrishna explored multiple options to lock a project that could be wrapped quickly. Initial discussions with Harish Shankar did not progress, followed by talks with Naandhi director Vijay Kanakamedala. Eventually, Balakrishna zeroed in on Koratala Shiva, a filmmaker known for blending commercial elements with strong social messaging. This collaboration comes as an interesting choice, especially after Koratala’s recent big-budget venture Devara.
A Return to Core Storytelling
Unlike Devara, which leans heavily on scale and visual effects, this new project is expected to be a more grounded, message-driven film—something that aligns well with Koratala Shiva’s earlier successes. The plan is to avoid heavy CG work and instead focus on a tighter production schedule, enabling the team to aim for a quick turnaround. This approach could work in their favor if executed efficiently, particularly given Balakrishna’s urgency to meet the Sankranthi deadline.
Race Against Time for Sankranthi 2027
However, achieving a Pongal 2027 release is easier said than done. With tight timelines and multiple variables in play, the project will need seamless execution to stay on track. Adding to the uncertainty is Balakrishna’s ongoing film with Gopichand Malineni—if that project faces delays, it could itself shift to Sankranthi 2027, altering current plans. For now, all eyes are on whether Koratala Shiva can deliver within the ambitious timeframe and give Balakrishna yet another festive release.
