Kollywood is back, Tollywood continues to struggle

After Sankranti, the Kollywood market saw a dull phase and witnessed poor numbers for all movies. It was the Malayalam films like Bramayugam, Premalu, Manjummel Boys, Aadujeevitham, and Aaavesham that ruled the roost and got the crowds in huge numbers to theatres across Tamil Nadu and saved theatre owners.

After the Malayalam movie’s storm, Tamil cinema is back after the release of Aranmanai 4. Starring Tamannah and Raashi Khanna, this horror comedy is a massive commercial success and brought back Kollywood cinema in style. Apart from Aranmanai 4, Kavin’s Star has also opened well witnessing a good jump, and delivered another success for the Tamil cinema.

Tollywood, on the other hand, hasn’t had a particularly good time in terms of releases post-Sankranthi. Coming to last weekend’s releases, Prathinidhi 2 and Krishnamma, both have failed miserably. The movies have witnessed poor occupancies and the numbers are quite poor. Prathinidhi 2 has crashed completely and while Krishnamma opened with good reviews, it has s not turned that into numbers.
