Dream Warrior Pictures, the production house behind Karuppu, has issued an official statement addressing the controversy surrounding legendary music composer Ilaiyaraaja and a dialogue featured in the film.
The Controversial Scene
A particular scene in Karuppu, set during a protest and court-related struggle, features one of Ilaiyaraaja’s popular songs in the background. During the sequence, a satirical dialogue suggests that the characters could face legal action or a lawsuit from the maestro himself for using the song without proper permission.
The scene sparked criticism from audiences and music lovers, with concerns that the dialogue indirectly mocked or disrespected Ilaiyaraaja.
Production House Issues Clarification
In response, Dream Warrior Pictures released an official press statement expressing their “sincere respect and admiration” for Ilaiyaraaja and his immense contribution to Indian cinema and music.
The production house clarified that there was “absolutely no intention to offend, hurt, or disrespect” the legendary composer. The dialogue was written purely within a broader satirical context and was never intended as a personal attack on Ilaiyaraaja, the statement explained.
The makers also acknowledged that the scene had upset the composer and expressed regret over the situation.
Scene Will Be Removed
As a gesture of respect, Dream Warrior Pictures confirmed that the controversial portion will be removed or modified in future versions and subsequent releases of Karuppu.
The production house concluded by reiterating that they continue to hold Ilaiyaraaja in the highest regard.
The clarification has brought some calm to the issue, with many appreciating Dream Warrior Pictures for addressing the matter publicly and respectfully.
