Karthi’s Vaa Vaathiyaar faced several hurdles before its release, but it is performing very poorly at the box office. After finally resolving all legal issues, the film hit theaters on January 14. But it was released with very little buzz and opened to extremely low box office collections. Adding to the trouble, the movie received below-average word of mouth.
Because of these factors, the film has not shown any improvement in collections, even during the festival season. In Tamil Nadu, it has collected only around ₹7 crore gross in its first three days. At this pace, it may not even cross ₹20 crore gross during its entire run. Collections from overseas and the rest of India are also very weak.
The film is expected to end its run with a single-digit closing share. With its Telugu release scheduled after the festival season, the situation looks even more difficult. Given the current trend, Vaa Vaathiyaar is unlikely to perform well in Telugu markets or register strong box office numbers.
