Kantara producers go to court over the Karnataka government’s decision to cap ticket prices at ₹200 across theaters, including multiplexes. Hombale Films, behind Kantara, has filed four (PILs) public interest litigations in the Karnataka High Court challenging the decision.
Shortly after the Karnataka government decided to cap movie ticket prices at Rs 200 in every theater, including multiplexes and not counting taxes, Hombale Films, which produced Rishab Shetty’s Kantara franchise, took action by filing four Public Interest Litigations in the Karnataka High Court to dispute this ruling.
Kantara Producers Move to High Court
The petitioners also feature the Multiplex Association of India, Keystone Entertainment, and VK Films, as mentioned in a press note.
According to the petitioners, limiting ticket prices to Rs 200 could really drag down film collections. On top of everything, Kantara: Chapter 1, which is a prequel to last year’s Kantara, is set to drop in just a few weeks on October 2.
The Karnataka High Court saw four PILs filed against the government’s move to set a maximum price of Rs 200 for movie tickets. Hombale Films, the Multiplex Association of India, Keystone Entertainment, and VK Films have filed the petitions.
Owners of multiplexes and film producers raised concerns about the government’s decision, arguing that a uniform ticket price will shrink their income and result in financial setbacks.
