Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1 releases today in theaters, and the film opens with positive WOM and reviews. The box office calculations are already on, but the film reaching 1000 Cr looks out of reach now.
The numbers are coming good in all 5 languages, such as Kannada, Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, and Malayalam. But the opening numbers of this periodic action drama are nowhere near those of KGF-2 due to low pre-release buzz and advances.
Nowadays, big Pan-India films are joining the 1000 Cr club. Films like Baahubali-2, RRR, Pushpa-2, KGF-2, and Kalki 2898 AD have already joined this club. A few months ago, there were the same expectations on Kantara’s prequel, and everyone thought it would easily join this magical club.
But somehow the movie did not carry the anticipated buzz, as the trailer did not work massively for all language audiences. Now even though WOM is positive, reaching 1000 Cr looks impossible for Kantara Chapter 1.
The advances for the weekend are not that big in all languages, including overseas. It will definitely have a good weekend but not on the KGF-2 level. The trade expects the film to do around 600 – 700 Cr, and we need to wait and see how it goes.
But at any maximum possibility calculation, 1000 Cr seems out of reach for Rishab Shetty’s directorial, as such huge momentum is not present for the film among audiences.
