Actor and politician Kangana Ranaut has criticized music composer AR Rahman over his comments on the Vicky Kaushal–starrer Chhaava, which he described as a “divisive” film. In response, Kangana called Rahman “prejudiced and hateful” in a social media post.

On Saturday, January 17, Kangana shared a screenshot of Rahman’s interview with BBC Asian Network on her Instagram Stories. Along with it, she wrote that she faces a lot of prejudice in the film industry because of her political views. However, she added that she has not come across anyone more prejudiced and hateful than Rahman.

Kangana also said that Rahman had refused to meet her regarding her directorial film Emergency. She stated that she wanted to narrate the story to him, but he declined, saying he did not want to be part of a propaganda film. Kangana pointed out that Emergency later received positive reviews from critics and appreciation from leaders of opposition parties as well, who praised the film for its balanced and compassionate approach. She expressed disappointment, saying Rahman was blinded by hatred.

The film focuses on his reign, battles with Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, themes of loyalty and betrayal, and the struggle to protect Maratha sovereignty. It is adapted from Shivaji Sawant’s novel.
