Dulquer Salmaan’s Kaantha is falling below expectations at the box office because of mixed reviews from audiences and critics. The film had a contrasting response from the regular shows at the Chennai premiere.
The film had a very low opening in the Telugu states, grossing close to 2 Cr, and although it was expected to see a significant jump on Day 2, it shockingly performed at the same level as the opening day. For 2 days, Telugu States gross is just around 3.5 Cr, which is a disappointing one for the film.
Even in Tamil Nadu, which is the main territory and language for the film, it sees an ordinary start, and day 2 sees a jump of around 30% which is not enough for the film. In Kerala, it saw a decent start with 1.1 Cr, but day 2 did not see the jump and remained at the same level.
Overall, Kaantha, starring Duqluer Salmaan, did not go beyond expectations at the box office, and it has collected around 11 Cr in India. Coming overseas, the film is not doing great either.
If we put together the overseas and India numbers, the period drama’s worldwide gross will be around 16 Cr, and it is certainly a disappointing number for the film. Today, the film must see a massive jump, or else, with this trend, there is no chance of the film going to Dulquer’s previous blockbusters range.
