Jailer 2 has delivered a big opening day, and it did it the hard way. Despite low pre-release buzz and a slow start in the noon shows, the Rajinikanth film picked up with every show as positive word of mouth and reviews spread. By the night shows, collections had more than doubled compared to the noon shows.
Based on the estimates, Jailer 2 is heading for an opening day of around ₹130 Cr gross worldwide, the third biggest opening ever for a Kollywood film after Coolie and Leo.

From a Slow Noon to a Packed Night
The story of the day is the climb. The noon shows started on a slower note, reflecting the quiet pre-release campaign. But as the first audiences came out with positive reactions, every show did better than the one before. The night shows registered more than double the collections of the noon shows, showing how quickly the talk spread.
It is the same pattern the first Jailer followed in 2023, when it started without record hype and grew into a massive blockbuster on word of mouth.
Records in Kerala and Karnataka
Outside Tamil Nadu, Jailer 2 has delivered record numbers. In Kerala, it is heading for ₹12 Cr+, beating Leo’s record for the biggest opening by a Tamil film in the state. In Karnataka, it has crossed ₹14 Cr, going past the previous best for a Kollywood film there.
The film also set an all-time Kollywood record on BookMyShow, selling more than 84,000 tickets in a single hour, beating Leo’s previous best of over 82,000.
Overseas Picks Up
Overseas has turned out to be a big contributor, with collections in the $6M range. Pre-sales stood at $3.5M before release, so the film nearly doubled that on the day itself as the positive talk reached audiences abroad.
Telugu States Bounce Back
The Telugu States are another positive surprise. Before release, the Telugu version’s advance bookings were well below Rajinikanth’s Coolie, and even ₹15 Cr on Day 1 looked difficult. With the positive talk, the film has now crossed ₹15 Cr in the Telugu States, a strong turnaround in a single day.
North India Despite No Multiplexes
North India has added ₹6 Cr+, even though the Hindi version is not playing in national chains like PVR INOX and Cinepolis because of its four-week OTT window. The single screen numbers show there is real interest in the Hindi market.
The Run Ahead
With the opening week running straight into the Dasara holidays, followed by the second weekend, Jailer 2 is set for a massive run. The film now has a real chance of challenging 2.0’s record as the biggest grosser in Kollywood history.
Jailer 2 is directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Sun Pictures, with Rajinikanth returning as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian and music by Anirudh Ravichander.
