The final numbers are in, and Jailer 2 has opened big. The Rajinikanth film collected ₹130 Cr+ gross worldwide on its first day, with ₹72.05 Cr from India and ₹58 Cr from overseas. It is the third biggest opening ever for a Kollywood film and the second biggest of Rajinikanth’s career, behind only his own Coolie.

Kollywood’s Third Biggest, Rajinikanth’s Second Biggest
Only two Kollywood films have opened bigger: Coolie and Leo. And the No.1 spot belongs to Rajinikanth himself, with Coolie’s record opening of more than ₹150 Cr worldwide.
What makes Jailer 2’s number special is how it got there. The film arrived with low pre-release buzz and modest advance bookings. It was the positive talk from the first shows that pushed collections up through the day, with night shows collecting more than double the noon shows.
Records in Kerala and Karnataka
Outside Tamil Nadu, Jailer 2 delivered record-breaking numbers.
In Kerala, the film collected ₹12.7 Cr, the biggest opening ever for a Tamil film in the state, beating Vijay’s Leo. In Karnataka, it collected ₹14.1 Cr, going past the previous best for a Kollywood film there.
Both states together contributed nearly ₹27 Cr, more than Tamil Nadu itself.
Telugu States Deliver ₹16 Cr
The Telugu States are one of the biggest positive surprises. Before release, the Telugu version’s bookings were well below Coolie’s, and even ₹15 Cr looked difficult. Riding on positive talk, Andhra Pradesh (₹8.75 Cr) and Telangana (₹7.25 Cr) together delivered ₹16 Cr on Day 1.
Overseas: ₹58 Cr
Overseas contributed ₹58 Cr, around 45 percent of the worldwide total.

Tamil Nadu at ₹23.75 Cr
Tamil Nadu led the India total with ₹23.75 Cr. Compared to other territories, Tamil Nadu’s opening is a bit low. It could have collected at least another ₹5 crore. The low pre-release buzz has cost the film here.
Rest of India at ₹5.5 Cr
The Rest of India contributed ₹5.5 Cr, with the Hindi version opening at ₹3.5 Cr nett despite having no promotions and no release in national multiplex chains.
The Run Ahead
With the opening week running into the Dasara holidays and the second weekend, Jailer 2 is set for a massive run. With positive talk on its side, the film now has a real chance to challenge 2.0’s record as Kollywood’s biggest grosser of all time.
