Rajinikanth has finally done what even Jailer couldn’t. Jailer 2 has crossed the ₹200 Cr gross mark in Tamil Nadu, the first time any Superstar film has reached this milestone in the state.
The Mark Jailer Missed
In 2023, Jailer came very close. The film collected over ₹195 Cr gross in Tamil Nadu and missed the 200 Cr mark by inches. Fans had to wait for the sequel to see Rajinikanth cross that line.
Jailer 2 made it happen today.
Only the Fourth Film to Do It
With this, Jailer 2 becomes only the fourth film ever to gross ₹200 Cr in Tamil Nadu. The other three are:
- Ponniyin Selvan 1
- Leo
- GOAT
It’s a very exclusive club, and Rajinikanth is now part of it.
Now the Big Target: Ponniyin Selvan 1
The race isn’t over. Ponniyin Selvan 1 holds the all-time record in Tamil Nadu with around ₹230 Cr gross. Jailer 2 now has a real chance to go after that number in its full run.
Diwali Could Be the Game Changer
Timing is on Jailer 2’s side. The Diwali festival arrives next week, and the holiday period usually brings big family crowds to theatres in Tamil Nadu. A strong Diwali run could push the film much closer to the top spot.
If the film keeps its pace through the festival, a new Tamil Nadu record isn’t out of reach.
A Record-Breaking Run Everywhere
The Tamil Nadu milestone comes on top of a record run worldwide. Jailer 2 has already become the first Tamil film to cross ₹700 Cr worldwide, and it has done strong business in Kerala, Karnataka, the Telugu states and the Hindi markets.
At 75, Rajinikanth is once again proving why he’s called the Superstar.
