High Court dismisses the case on Megastar Chiranjeevi

Megastar Chiranjeevi’s poll code violation case was dismissed by the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Tuesday. In 2014, a case was registered against him for holding an election rally beyond the permitted time.

Megastar Chiranjeevi, a former Congress leader, was in charge of the party’s election campaign in the 2014 elections. A case was registered against him in Guntur as he had not finished an election rally in time, causing traffic problems. The High Court granted him relief in a similar case in 2019.

Chiranjeevi got into active politics in 2008 by floating the Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) in the then undivided Andhra Pradesh. He merged the PRP with the Congress in 2011 after the party’s unsuccessful performance in the 2009 elections and subsequent developments. Many fans and admirers Chiranjeevi were disappointed with the way he handled the things in politics at that time.

In 2012, Chiranjeevi was elected to the Rajya Sabha and in the same year, he was appointed as a Minister in the Congress-led UPA government in the Centre. Following the division of Andhra Pradesh into Telangana state and the embarrassing defeat of the Congress party in the 2014 polls, Chiranjeevi abandoned politics and resumed his work in films.
