He was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday for a regular health check-up, as per DMDK’s statement. At the time, the party said Vijayakanth was “healthy” and would return home after the tests.
Today, the party persons reported that Vijayakanth had tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently on ventilator support due to breathing difficulties.
After being admitted on November 20th, the DMDK chief was recently released this month. Vijayakanth was being treated at the hospital for a respiratory condition. Vijayakanth’s rise to fame was highlighted by his successful career in cinema, where he appeared in 154 films, and his subsequent foray into politics.
He founded the DMDK and served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly twice, representing the constituencies of Virudhachalam and Rishivandiyam. He was the Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly during his political career from 2011 to 2016.
Vijayakanth has recently taken a step back from active political activities due to his health concerns.
