Godzilla Minus Zero finally has a release date in India. The much-awaited sequel to the Oscar-winning Godzilla Minus One will hit Indian theatres on November 20, filmed for IMAX.
Godzilla Minus Zero India Release Details
- Release Date (India): November 20
- Format: Filmed for IMAX
- Director: Takashi Yamazaki
- Cast: Ryunosuke Kamiki, Minami Hamabe
Moving Away From Ramayana
The November 20 date means Godzilla Minus Zero will avoid a direct clash with Ramayana in India. The film was earlier expected around November 6, just a day after Ramayana’s November 5 release.
Both films are big-screen spectacles made for IMAX, and India has only a limited number of IMAX screens. With Ramayana reportedly holding a two-week IMAX window in India, a clash would have left both films fighting for the same premium screens.
By moving to November 20, Godzilla gets its own space, and Ramayana keeps the IMAX screens to itself during its crucial first two weeks.
Released Elsewhere First
Godzilla Minus Zero releases in Japan on November 3 and in North America on November 6. Indian audiences will have to wait about two more weeks to watch it on the big screen.
The Story
The film picks up two years after the events of Godzilla Minus One. Set in 1949, it shows Japan finally finding its feet after the destruction, when a new catastrophe threatens its hard-won peace.
With Godzilla returning to unleash destruction on an even bigger scale, the Shikishima family must once again face the monster that changed their lives forever.
A First for Japanese Cinema
Directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Takashi Yamazaki, Godzilla Minus Zero is the first Japanese production filmed for IMAX.
Its predecessor, Godzilla Minus One, became a global sensation and won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, making expectations for the sequel sky-high.
For Indian fans of the franchise, November 20 is now the date to mark.
