The much-awaited Ghilli re-release has been a massive success by registering terrific collections over the weekend. Ghilli’s re-release created a new benchmark in re-releases. The film opened with closer to 8 Cr gross worldwide with Tamil Nadu collecting Rs 4.3 crores.
Shockingly, Ghilli held super strong on its second day and collected more than 3 Cr gross. For 2 days, the Tamil Nadu gross is more than 7.5 Cr, and the worldwide gross is in the range of 12 Cr making it a record-breaking re-release.
These are remarkable numbers and crossing double-digit gross in re-releases is a new benchmark indeed. Even today the bookings are good despite it being a working day. Ghilli’s re-entry to theatres have given a big relief to theatre owners.
Ghilli (2004), an official remake of Mahesh Babu’s Okkadu (2003), was a blockbuster in Tamil and, over the years, gained a cult following among fans and audiences in general. Vijay’s portrayal of a youngster taking on a dreaded factionist amidst Kabaddi background and Vidyasagar’s chartbuster music made Ghilli a massive blockbuster 20 years ago. ‘
