In the industry, there has been a strong demand for technicians like star writers, editors, cameramen, and actors turning into directors for the past few years. Industry professionals, especially producers, strongly believe in them and are locking them in for a series of films, expecting them to deliver blockbusters with fresh subjects due to their long-standing experience in the industry.
Recently three years back a star editor turned director made a film with a Tier-2 hero. Even before the movie’s release, a few producers had discussions with the editor-turned-director about future projects, and some even paid advances. The producers’ calculations will not work with some people, whom they think will deliver good results. However, the movie failed miserably at the box office. After this failure, the director struggled to impress any hero with a new subject, and no new projects have been signed since the debacle.
As a result, producers who had given advances started demanding their money back. However, the director’s response is said to be unsatisfactory. Now, the producers are likely to approach the council to solve these issues.
