Dhanush’s Kara on Netflix: Will OTT Response Be Better?

After failing to make an impact at the box office during its theatrical release in April, Dhanush’s latest heist thriller Kara has now arrived on Netflix, hoping to find a better response from audiences. Directed by Vignesh Raja, the film had released in theatres with decent expectations but could not attract the kind of appreciation the makers had hoped for. The big question now: will the Kara OTT response be any different?

Why Kara Struggled in Theatres

Despite generating curiosity before release, Kara struggled to leave a strong mark commercially. Many viewers felt that the slow-paced narration and screenplay failed to keep them fully engaged, which affected the film’s theatrical run.

Made in the heist thriller genre, the film blends suspense, action, and emotional elements. Director Vignesh Raja attempted to present an intense and layered narrative, but the execution reportedly did not connect strongly with mainstream audiences during its theatrical release.

Kara Now Streaming on Netflix

The film is now streaming on Netflix in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada languages. Audiences who missed the film in theatres now have a chance to watch it from the comfort of their homes.

The film also stars Mamitha Baiju, who became popular with Premalu. While her chemistry with Dhanush received positive feedback, many felt that her character did not get enough scope to perform.

Several other South Indian films have faced poor OTT response after disappointing theatrical runs, though some manage to find a second life on streaming platforms. It now remains to be seen whether Kara can receive a much better response on OTT compared to its theatrical run.
