Satyaprem Ki Katha starring Karthik Aryan and Kiara Advani was released in theatres on June 29th and opened to unanimous positive reviews and a solid opening day collection. The film was loved by the audience as well as by the critics. Some even called it the ‘Best Hindi Film’ of the year.
But despite the good opening day numbers and the impressive reviews, the film has sadly failed to hold onto the steam. The film collected more than 10.5 crores on Sunday but had a massive drop and only collected 3.5 crores in nett collections. This is a shockingly low droop for a film that has received good word of mouth from the audiences.
It is also sad to see that a good film is not getting its due credit. But if we look at it analytically, we can perhaps come up with a few reasons as to why this has happened.
Firstly, Karthik Aryan’s previous film Shehzada was a disaster. The film was dismissed by the audiences and was deemed a terrible remake of Ala Vaikunthapurram Loo. But this is one of the weaker reasons.
The main reason might be because of the subject handled in the film. The film focuses on a very sensitive topic that family audiences might not be comfortable with.
I have personally seen the film and I loved the way they handled this important topic. But the question is, is the general public ready to accept such messages? From the looks of it, maybe not yet.
