Daayra has opened to a disastrous Day 1 at the box office. The film even received positive reviews on release, but that did not translate into audience interest, with theatres seeing minimal turnout on the very first day.
The All India Tracked Numbers
On Day 1, Daayra collected around 1.19 Cr gross across languages, from just over 39,900 tickets and 2,411 shows. The Hindi version made up almost the entire total at 1.18 Cr, while the Malayalam version added only 1.36 lakh.
The biggest shock comes from the Malayalam side. Despite Prithviraj Sukumaran being one of the lead actors, the Malayalam version did not even manage 1,000 tickets sold across all of India on Day 1, a number that is hard to explain for an actor of his standing in his own home industry.
Early advance bookings for Day 2 are also not showing any improvement, suggesting the poor opening is not a one-day issue. At this stage, the film looks like it is facing an outright rejection from audiences, regardless of the reviews it received going in.
