Sree Vishnu arrives with his 3rd film this year, Comrade Kalyan. Presented by Kona Venkat, the film stars Mahima Nambiar as the female lead with star comedian Satya in a crucial role. Here’s our Comrade Kalyan review.
Story
Comrade Kalyan tells the story of Kalyan (Sree Vishnu), a man who falls for Sithara (Mahima Nambiar), a new arrival in his village. He tries to help her family get through money troubles. However, while doing this, he becomes caught between Naxalites and police. The film shows how Kalyan manages to overcome all these challenges.
Performances
Sree Vishnu dons the lead role in Comrade Kalyan and tries to bring maximum fun to the table. Sadly, his efforts work only in very few scenes. For the rest of the time, it’s just him trying too hard without any impact.
Mahima Nambiar makes her Telugu debut with this film, and she gets a forgettable role. Radhika Sarathkumar, who showed her acting prowess in Vishwanath & Sons recently, gets wasted in an insignificant role this time. Sathya’s comedy does not work except for one or two scenes, and the same is the case with Sudharshan as well. Shine Tom Chacko and Upendra Limaye could not do much.
Analysis
Comrade Kalyan is directed by Janakiram Marella, with a screenplay by Kona Venkat. The film tries to be an out-and-out hilarious entertainer with a slight touch of a serious issue in the background.
The opening moments are okayish, as the fun parts seem to work decently. But soon, the momentum drops as every scene tries too hard to bring out the comedy. The love track is handled very poorly, without giving both the leads anything to excel.
The small twist near the interval is already foreseeable, but one expects things to get better in the second half. Instead, the film goes downhill as it progresses. The emotional foundation of the Naxal gang and their fight with the police department is dated and handled very ineffectively.
As if the silly scenes of Satya and Sree Vishnu were not enough, the cameo of Vennela Kishore as a security officer to the minister arrives with a dated touch. The biggest problem is that audiences are unable to connect with the hero’s struggle, the pain of Naxalites, or the suffering of the police officers.
Towards the climax, the film tries to bring some seriousness, with Sree Vishnu bringing change in the police department and among Naxalites as well. But the message does not land well because of the farce proceedings until then.
Comrade Kalyan Review And Verdict
Comrade Kalyan is a poorly made film with bland writing and very few comedy scenes that work. Despite Sree Vishnu’s best efforts to entertain, the film struggles to engage and ultimately turns into a tedious affair because of outdated scenes and humor. This marks another disappointment in Sree Vishnu’s recent lineup, raising questions about his script selection.
