Sree Vishnu’s Comrade Kalyan has passed its first big test at the box office. The film held very well on its first Monday, collecting around ₹2 Cr gross worldwide on Day 4. In India, it retained close to 70 percent of its opening day collections, an excellent hold for a film that opened with below-par reviews.
Comrade Kalyan – Day 1 vs Day 4: A Strong Monday
All India Tracked Gross
- Day 1: ₹2.31 Cr
- Day 4: ₹1.61 Cr
Mondays usually bring the biggest drop of the week, but Comrade Kalyan dropped only around 30 percent from its Friday opening. Holding more than two-thirds of its Day 1 number on a working day shows that word of mouth is working strongly in the film’s favour.
Comrade Kalyan: 87% Recovery So Far
Comrade Kalyan grossed ₹12 Cr worldwide in its first weekend. With around ₹2 Cr more on Monday, the four-day worldwide total now stands at around ₹14 Cr gross.
Against a break-even target of ₹16 Cr gross, the film has already recovered around 87 percent of its business in just four days. With only ₹2 Cr more needed, Comrade Kalyan is set to cross break-even in the next few days.
Set for a Clean Success
With this kind of hold, Comrade Kalyan is heading towards a clean success for Sree Vishnu. The film is set to post good numbers through the week and into the Dasara festival holidays, which will give it another big push with family audiences.
There were doubts about the film before release, as it did not arrive with much craze and opened to below-par reviews. But audiences have backed it, and Sree Vishnu’s pull at the box office has once again shown its strength.
Competition Ahead
The week brings big releases with Jailer 2 on October 15 and Ranabaali on October 16, which will take away some screens. But with break-even almost in sight and the talk working in its favour, Comrade Kalyan has already done most of the hard work.
Directed by Janakiram Marella, Comrade Kalyan is a period action comedy starring Sree Vishnu and Mahima Nambiar, with Radhika Sarathkumar, Shine Tom Chacko and Upendra Limaye in key roles.
