Competition strikes gold for Ajith’s Thunivu at box office

The most awaited box office clash of Vijay and Ajith has happened after nine years, and the two leading actors’ respective films ‘Varisu’ and ‘Thunivu’ released on the same day, on Jan. 11, as a Pongal treat to fans. Ajith’s film won the box office competition on the opening day in Tamil Nadu, while Vijay starrer took a lead at the global box office.

The latest reports suggest that ‘Thunivu’ is gearing ahead of Vijay’s film in multiple locations at the end of day 6. The competition has struck gold for Ajith’s Thunivu at the box office it seems.

Thunivu had received mixed reports from early shows on day 1, and it is not a regular commercial or family entertainer as well. So, everyone from the audience and trade circles say that like previous Ajith’s film Valimai this film might have ended up as a loss venture if it had released on any other occasion.

The competition and Pongal holidays helped Thunivu a lot, and it delivered career best numbers in overseas for Ajith within 1st week itself. The film is all set to collect around 150 Crores gross in the 1st week, which is a record for Ajith. Also, looking at the present trend, this film will be the 1st 200 Crores grosser for Ajith in the full run.

Ajith received a fantastic response for his performance in ‘Thunivu’. However, H Vinoth’s direction didn’t get the same appreciation as everybody felt he should have done a much better job in handling the film. Manju Warrier, Mohana Sundaram, Samuthirakani, John Kokken, and Veera have played crucial roles in the film.
