Cocktail 2 got off to a decent start at the box office and posted respectable numbers over its opening weekend. However, mixed-to-positive word of mouth, coupled with stiff competition from Akshay Kumar’s Welcome to the Jungle, has significantly slowed the film’s momentum. As a result, its theatrical run has fallen short of initial expectations.
Starring Shahid Kapoor alongside Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna, the sequel to Saif Ali Khan’s Cocktail (2012) has collected ₹85.44 crore at the Indian box office so far. While the figure is respectable for a standalone Hindi film, it is widely being viewed as an underperformance given the franchise value, star-studded cast, and high expectations surrounding the sequel.
The road ahead doesn’t appear encouraging either, with today’s occupancy levels remaining low and advance bookings for tomorrow showing little improvement. Directed by Homi Adajania, Cocktail 2 now looks unlikely to replicate the success of its predecessor. Meanwhile, Rashmika Mandanna‘s wait for a major breakthrough as a leading actress in Bollywood continues.
