Rajinikanth’s Baasha remains to be one of the biggest favourite commercial films for movie lovers to date. The film set a standard for heroism and elevation and the screenplay of Baasha has inspired several other directors to make something similar. The trope of the hero being an ordinary man and flashback actually revealing him as someone entirely different is followed even today and it all started with Rajinikanth’s Basha.
Speaking to the media about the film’s impact, Baasha’s director Suresh Krissna revealed an interesting detail. When quizzed about who would suit the film’s remake, The director said that the film’s remake and the subject needed superstardom to carry out the film.
Interestingly, back in the 90s after Baasha’s monstrous success, Suresh Krissna planned the Telugu remake with Chiranjeevi but he was busy with some commitments and it did not materialise.
Rajnikanth asked the director if Mohan Babu could do it instead. The director straightaway rejected this idea as it needed a star of bigger stature, someone like Chiranjeevi. With plans for the Megastar failing, the makers of Baasha released a direct dubbed version of Baasha which ended up being a massive success in Telugu as well.
Speaking about which Tamil actor could essay Baasha role today, the director replied that out of the current stars, Ajith Kumar would suit the role pretty well.
