Similarly, Sandalwood stunned audiences with KGF: Chapter 1 and shattered records with KGF: Chapter 2, which also joined the 1,000-crore club. Films like Kantara are further poised to sustain this momentum. Meanwhile, Bollywood maintains its stronghold with several films crossing this benchmark.
In contrast, Kollywood has struggled to reach this milestone. Despite significant efforts, even anticipated pan-India projects like Indian 2 and Kanguva have failed to perform at the expected scale, facing critical and commercial setbacks. However, the industry’s hopes now rest on Coolie, the upcoming collaboration between superstar Rajinikanth and director Lokesh Kanagaraj.
For Coolie to succeed, it must adopt a robust pan-Indian strategy and target the lucrative Hindi-speaking belt. With Rajinikanth’s immense fanbase and Lokesh’s proven track record, the film has the potential to bridge Kollywood’s gap to the prestigious ₹1,000-crore club, if marketed and executed strategically.
