Vijay sets the 1st 100 Cr opening for Kollywood with Leo, and the film, with close to 150 Cr gross, sets an all-time record opening. Rajinikanth’s Coolie crossed the Leo opening by a small margin with a 150 Cr+ start and emerged as the new record opening for Tamil cinema.
Vijay’s final film, Jana Nayagan, is releasing on 9th January, but the film beating Coolie’s opening looks not possible at this moment. Coolie received solid openings across all languages and all territories, but Jana Nayagan can not see the same range of openings in Telugu and Hindi. In Tamil, in a few territories, the film will have a lead, but that lead is likely not enough to cover the lead of Rajinikanth’s film.
Jana Nayagan: Opening Expectations are Huge
As per the current trend, Jana Nayagan is estimated to take an opening of around 130 Cr worldwide, and it needs to be seen whether Vijay crosses his previous record in opening with this. One main issue for Jana Nayagan is that the movie’s promotional content does not work massively, and it has only one big factor, which is that it is the last movie of Thalapathy Vijay.
The film’s trailer needs to take the buzz to a new level to get more openings at the box office.
