The Bhooth Bangla review is here. This 2026 Indian Hindi horror-comedy marks the reunion of actor Akshay Kumar and director Priyadarshan after 14-16 years. Produced by Balaji Telefilms and Cape of Good Films, Bhooth Bangla brings back the iconic duo that delivered the original Bhool Bhulaiyaa. Let’s see if this combo meets fans’ expectations.

Story

The story begins when Arjun comes back to India from London. He has a straightforward plan: to hold his sister’s wedding at their beautiful ancestral bungalow. However, things change rapidly as he faces several surprising incidents upon his arrival. He soon discovers a startling secret related to the house. The remainder of the film focuses on how Arjun resolves the issue in the bungalow and ensures that his sister’s wedding takes place there.

Performances

Akshay Kumar delivers a convincing performance and excels in the comedy scenes, along with a few emotional scenes as well. Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav deliver some hilarious moments along with the late Asrani Ji, while Tabu, Wamiqa Gabbi, Jisshu Sengupta, Manoj Joshi, Mithila Palkar, and Rajesh Sharma are also apt.

Analysis

Renowned director Priyadarshan reunites with Akshay Kumar after a long gap for Bhooth Bangla, and fans expected nothing less than the original magic—Bhool Bhulaiyaa‘s first part from the combo.

It is widely known that the second and third parts of the Bhool Bhulaiyaa series were acted and directed by others, not Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan. Now, these expectations work in favor of the movie at a few places, and they work against it at a few places.

The first half of Bhooth Bangla has hilarious moments which keep the flow going, and an interesting hook of the folklore opens at the interval. The second half neatly explains the backstory and its connection with the folklore, followed by some comedy moments again, and a well-managed climax.

Fans who expect the same kind of setup or vintage fun from Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan do not feel too bad about the film’s predictable storyline. Similar to the recent Raakaasa horror-comedy, mixing laughs with scares remains a challenge in the genre.

However, fans with higher expectations may not enjoy this Bhooth Bangla review verdict, as the film feels reminiscent of older horror movies. There is nothing new in the screenplay, except for a brief moment in the opening act of Vasudhur’s character.

The comedy works well for the major part of the film’s first half, but the fear factor does not work in the latter half, where the fun takes the backseat. The climax and the twist in the final scene are alright.

Bhooth Bangla Review: Positives and Negatives

Positives

  • First half comedy and flow
  • Vadhusar character introduction
  • Emotional scenes and climax
  • Star cast nostalgia

Negatives

  • Routine, predictable story
  • Dragged scenes in second half
  • Underwhelming music
  • Weak fear factor

Final Verdict

Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar‘s Bhooth Bangla emerges as an average horror comedy. The comedy in the first half, some emotional moments in the second half, and the nostalgia factor because of the star cast work well for the film. On the flip side, the predictability in the proceedings and not-so-thrilling backstory work against it.
