Andhra Pradesh Government’s decision to bring in AP Cinematography Act amendments has given a huge shock to upcoming Tollywood biggies.
Under these amendments, the government aims to bring reforms that will enable it to set ticket prices at its discretion. Additionally, no permissions will be given for special shows and the government will allow only four shows per day for any film.
This is a massive setback for films like RRR, Radhe Shyam, Akhanda, Bheemla Nayak, and Pushpa which are set to release in the next couple of months.
The decision to set control on ticket prices and scrapping the benefit show is still understandable. However, with the decision to permit only four shows govt. decided prices will lead to massive losses to the distributors. Producer Suresh Babu had earlier pointed out that with these rates it will be difficult to even manage rents and bills of the theatres. Adding to this there are taxes and UFO charges which will additionally burden the exhibitors massively.
The government needs to intervene in this issue immediately and bring in reforms to this act. While the government can still exercise control under it, they should adjust new prices in a manner that is beneficial to both the common man and exhibitors.
A Centers Rs 250/-, B Centers Rs 150/- and C Centers Rs 100/- are the rates that would stabilize the market in ongoing rough times. Inaction from the government on this issue would lead to further black marketing of tickets and might even lead to direct OTT releases from many more films in the coming days.,
