R. D. Wilson, alias Sarath Chandra, is a novelist and poet in Telugu. He made headlines for accusing Koratala Shiva of plagarising his work in the film Srimanthudu (2015). He claimed the Mahesh Babu-starrer was a complete copy of his work, ‘Chachhentha Prema’, a novel published in Swathi magazine in 2012.
He lodged a complaint at the Telugu Cine Writers’ Association, which, after analysing the claim, concluded that Srimanthudu’s core plot was copied from his work. Mr. Chandra went on to pursue it at the apex court of the country, which confirmed the copyright infringement that had happened. Needless to say, Koratala Shiva will have to face criminal charges.
Now, the same writer has accused another film of Mahesh Babu of being a scene-to-scene copy of his work ‘Samaharam’. It’s the Super Star’s landmark 25th film, Maharshi (2019). He also stated that he’ll take legal action against the film’s writers, Vamshi Paidipally, Hari, and Ahishor Solomon, once the ongoing Srimanthudu issue is settled.
All in all, it was a tough time for Mahesh Babu, with his writers and directors continuously facing legal troubles. On the work front, ‘Super Star’ is currently preparing for a project directed by S. S. Rajamouli.
