Amazon issues gag order to Samantha

The much-awaited trailer of Family Man 2 dropped in a few days ago. The trailer has received applause as well a criticism. Complaints have come out that Samantha’s character Raji has been designed in a way that hurts Tamil sentiments.

Many Tamil users felt the series is showing the state in a bad light. Tamil Twitter users have been trending the hashtag #ShameonYouSamantha ‘#Familyman2_Against_Tamils’. They have criticizeded Samantha for depicting a coalition between ‘ISI and rebels’.

The controversy took a bigger turn with Rajya Sabha MP, Vaiko writing a letter to Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javedkar. The MP belonging to MDMK party wrote the letter seeking a ban on the soon-to-be-released web series. He cited the unfair depiction of Tamils and establishing their inks with ISI in the show as the reason for his demand.

According to reports, Amazon Prime Video has placed a gag order on Samantha. The streaming platform has barred the actress from making any statement regarding the controversy.

“Amazon Prime Video like most content creators would like to avoid controversies prior to the release of their venture. The gag order to refrain from speak about the show is exactly that, so the audience feeling and sentiments that have been hurt can be assuaged,” said a source close to the makers.

Manoj Bajpai, Priyamani and Samantha star in key roles in this spy thriller set to release on June 4th. The 10 episode web series will stream on Amazon Prime Video
