Pushpa 2 storms Indian cinema just like Baahubali 2 and KGF 2 did. The sequel’s box office numbers live up to expectations, especially in Hindi, where it emerges as an all-time blockbuster. However, compared to the Hindi version, the South Indian versions did not perform at the same level. If the South Indian versions had performed as well as the Hindi version, the movie could have neared the ₹2000 crore mark. However, it ended up with a worldwide gross of around ₹1670 crore, with the Tamil and Malayalam versions underperforming slightly.
Coming to Telugu, the movie was released with very high pre-business rates. In the Telugu states alone, the pre-business was around ₹200 crore, and the movie collected ₹213 crore in share, including GST inputs. Some buyers faced losses, while others achieved breakeven, but none made huge profits due to the high business valuation.
Regarding ROI and overseas performance, the Telugu version underperformed. Especially in overseas markets, the strong performance of the Hindi version helped buyers achieve breakeven. Shockingly, the Telugu version even ended up below Kalki 2898 AD. Before release, everyone expected it to target Baahubali 2 levels and potentially cross the $50 million mark, but it ultimately ended up below $31 million in overseas collections.
Overall, worldwide, the Telugu version is an above-average performer at the box office. It was the third film to collect over 300 Cr share in Telugu Version after Baahubali2 and RRR. Not just the Telugu version, but the Tamil version is also above average, while the Malayalam version is a disaster. However, the Hindi version is an all-time blockbuster. Globally, the film was a mega-hit.
