25th December:
If the film releases on 25th December with 24th-night premieres, the film will benefit from the holiday release with a 4-day long weekend plus premieres. So it will definitely have a big opening weekend. And since 1st January falls in the second week, it becomes a big advantage, the second weekend will also deliver strong numbers.
However, after the second weekend, the movie may have almost completed its box-office run due to the pre-festival effect. Sankranthi is lined up with multiple releases, and another concern is whether the movie can maintain the same release momentum, as there is still more than a 2-week gap. The team will need to come out again for promotions.
12th December:
If it’s 12th December, with 11th-night premieres, there is no need to release much promotional content; a press meet is more than enough to carry the release momentum. But there are no holidays on the first weekend and the second weekend. The one big advantage is that the movie will have a consistent run until the 4th weekend, and both the 3rd and 4th weekends will benefit from holidays, which is a major plus.
As the business involves a huge amount, buyers always want to recover their investment as quickly as possible. So any delay in the release directly affects them. In this scenario, 12th December is the better option.
19th December:
If it’s a 19th December release, the movie will have a good advantage with holidays at the beginning of its second week and the beginning of its third week. Also, other releases will get some relief, as multiple films have already been announced for 12th December and 25th December. Finding a better date at this stage can be tough for them.
