Despite below-par word of mouth and poor reviews, Akhanda 2 has joined the 100 Cr gross club, becoming the fifth film of Balakrishna to achieve this milestone. With this, Balakrishna has delivered back-to-back ₹100 crore films, starting from Akhanda to Akhanda 2.
This marks the first time a senior hero’s film has crossed ₹100 crore gross despite negative reviews, highlighting Balakrishna’s growing box office strength. Truly, his goodwill with back-to-back decent content films has worked for this film.
But, for the overall business of Akhanda Sequel, this milestone is not enough. The film’s pre-release business was very high, and most buyers have recovered only about 50% of their investment so far. A strong second weekend is crucial to improve recoveries.
Akhanda 2 was seen as a golden opportunity for Balakrishna, and not only 100 Cr gross, but the fans expected it to reach an even higher level in the pan-India market. Director Boyapati Srinu failed to deliver the expected impact this time.
