Venkatesh and Trivikram’s Aadarsha Kutumbam has turned out to be a major box-office disappointment, collecting just over ₹70 crore worldwide. Interestingly, the film received better audience feedback than Trivikram’s previous outing, Guntur Kaaram, which managed an above-average result despite facing criticism. This raises an important question: did an unfavourable release date play a major role in Aadarsha Kutumbam‘s disappointing performance?
The film arrived in theatres on October 30, right between Dasara and Diwali, arguably one of the weakest release windows of the year. Audiences had already spent considerably during the Dasara holidays and were preparing for Diwali celebrations. Heavy rains caused by a cyclone further affected theatrical footfalls, while municipal elections in Andhra Pradesh added another hurdle. With no major holiday during its first week, the film struggled to attract audiences despite its relatively decent word of mouth.
Interestingly, Aadarsha Kutumbam was initially planned for an October 2 release, which would have placed it in the Dasara holiday window. A more favourable release date could potentially have improved its commercial prospects and given it a chance to enter the ₹100 crore club. Instead, the film is heading towards an underwhelming finish, considerably below its reported break-even target of ₹125 crore.
