The trailer launch of Venkatesh and Trivikram’s Aadarsha Kutumbam was supposed to be all about the film. But one statement from the stage has ended up stealing the spotlight and sparking a big controversy.
The Announcement
The trailer event was held yesterday at Malla Reddy University in Hyderabad, with the entire team of the film in attendance.
During her speech, Preethi Reddy, daughter-in-law of politician and educationist Malla Reddy, declared a holiday on October 30, the day Aadarsha Kutumbam releases in theatres.
The announcement drew loud cheers from the students in the audience. But outside the venue, it has drawn a very different reaction.
Why People Are Upset
Many are questioning how an educational institution can declare a holiday for a film’s release day. Critics say colleges should put students’ education first, and that giving a day off to celebrate a movie sends the wrong message.
The statement has gone viral on social media, with many calling it inappropriate for an academic institution.
Film Events on Campus
The controversy has also put the spotlight on a growing trend. Malla Reddy University has become a popular venue for film events in recent times, with many big Telugu films holding their promotional events on its campus.
College campuses give films a ready crowd of young audiences, which is why makers love such venues. But this incident has raised questions about where the line should be drawn.
No Response Yet
Preethi Reddy and the Malla Reddy institutions have not responded to the criticism so far. It’s also not clear whether the holiday has been formally declared or was announced in the excitement of the event.
The Aadarsha Kutumbam team has not commented on the controversy either.
The Film
